According to Bulletin Number 11-06 released on November 15th, the City of Kelowna will be increasing their permit fees in an attempt to ensure full recovery of administrative and inspection costs. As per City Council Policy 224, the Building and Permitting Branch has conducted a thorough review and in order to comply with this policy will be increasing their fee structure accordingly.
This is the first increase in Natural Gas permit fees since 1987, Plumbing fees since 1988, and Building Permit fees since 1993. It is important to note that even after the increases, the City’s fees will continue to be some of the lowest fee levels when evaluated against comparable cities.
We believe that the services provided by the Building and Inspection branch are crucial for homeowner safety, and support them in all that they do. Their efforts maintain a higher standard among the tradesmen operating in their jurisdiction, which in turn ensures the best possible results to the homeowners.
Of course, if you have work to be done and you live in the City of Kelowna, you may just want to get started sooner than later! The new fee structure will be implemented on January 1st, 2012.
